EU threatens Poland
July 27, 2017 - The WAR for sovereignty. The European Commission threatens to suspend Poland’s voting rights at the EU. Poland blasts EU blackmail over judicial reform after voting rights threat. Polish President Andrzej Duda signed a bill into law allowing the justice minister to hire and fire chief justices in common courts. 2 other bills tighten government control over the Supreme Court and a special body protecting the independence of judges. Poland’s prime minister welcomed a court verdict that found parts of Warsaw’s constitution are incompatible with EU treaties, ruling the country’s laws take precedence, a move that angered some bloc-member states. Polish PM Mateusz Morawiecki praised the recent conclusion by the country’s Constitutional Tribunal, claiming it confirmed constitutional law has superiority over other sources of law.
