Jan 10, 2018 - Tsunami alert. This is rare and huge. Very large M7.6 Earthquake strikes Caribbean / Gulf, Honduras, Central America. A 7.6 earthquake shook Great Swan Island, Honduras, in the Caymen trench, reports Dutch - upgrade to around 8.0.
Strong quake in Caribbean Sea shakes Honduras, Mexico and Belize, sparks tsunami warning. The quake was very shallow, at only 6.2 miles (10 km), which amplified its effect. It was lightly felt in Belize, but did not prompt immediate reports of damage.

There are fears the eruption could trigger landslides around the island and tsunamis on its neighboring islands. 600 residents were evacuated.
