Dec 23, 2019 - Israel, Cyprus huge gas pipeline deal to be signed January 2. Irael, Cyprus alliance as Turkey attempts to lay claim to eastern Mediterranean energy reserves. Greece will sign an agreement for a huge pipeline project with Cyprus and Israel designed to ship gas from the eastern Mediterranean to Europe. Turkey has been a bully on the seas and has a contentious maritime deal with Libya over a large gas-rich area of the sea. Greek PM said the agreement for the EastMed pipeline would be signed in Athens on January 2, 2020 with Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu and Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades. The pipeline will be able to transfer offshore gas reserves between Israel and Cyprus to Greece, Italy and other European countries.
