Cargo ship hits US warship
Jun 17, 2017 - US Navy USS Fitzgerald warship was rammed (T-boned) by ACX Crystal off the coast of Japan. The Fitzgerald's Commanding Officer is among the 4 sailors who were injured and flown off the ship. 7 U.S. sailors died. Fitzgerald Cmdr. Bryce Benson was airlifted to the U.S. Naval Hospital in Yokosuka and was in stable condition with a head injury. Cmdr. Benson is lucky to be alive! The sailors bodies were found by dive teams in previously flooded compartments, including sleeping quarters. The ship was under its own power but had limited propulsion. Its damaged on her starboard side above and below the waterline. The collision resulted in some flooding. There is no danger of the ship sinking.
