Sep 8, 2017 - Mexico City rocked by magnitude-8.1 offshore earthquake.
A massive earthquake struck off the southern coast of Mexico, shaking buildings in Mexico City. The depth 43 miles. It knocked out power to parts of the city, and prompted people to run out into the streets. Many aftershocks.

Sep 8, 2017 - An 8.2 (8.4) quake triggers tsunami waves off southwest Mexico coast. The earthquake triggered 1-meter tsunami waves along the coastline. The epicenter was 76 miles southwest of Pijijiapan, near the Guatemala border.
Its the strongest earthquake there since 1985.
The disaster may be widespread, given that most people live in adobe houses. Possible tsunamis along the Pacific coasts of Mexico and Central America, with the threat to Guam and Hawaii still being evaluated. The Atlantic coast of Mexico is bracing for Hurricane Katia.
