Oct 13, 2017 - Iraqi Kurds send reinforcements to Kirkuk. Thousands of Kurd fighters deployed to Kirkuk amid fears that Iraq govt forces want to take it. Kurdistan VP Kosrat Rasul said its responding to threats. Iraq PM Abadi said he would not use the army against Iraqi citizens, but convoys were seen heading towards Kirkuk. Voters in Kirkuk voted overwhelmingly in favour of secession. Kirkuk is an oil-rich province claimed by both the Kurds and the Iraq government. Its majority is Kurd.
