🌏 6.8 quake Honshu Japan
1 May 2021 Northeast Japan jolted by 6.8 magnitude earthquake, shaking buildings in Tokyo and raising the possibility of landsides. Quake seems to have caused no significant damage or injuries. No tsunami alert was issued, the quake was 37 miles deep and the mechanism of the faulting that occurred did not trigger any significant waves.

⚔️ Japan jails Taylor
July 19, 2021 Former US Army Special Forces op Michael Taylor and his son Peter sentenced to jail by a Tokyo court for helping former Nissan boss Carlos Ghosn flee Japan in 2019 to avoid prosecution for alleged financial crimes. Michael received a 2 year sentence, his son was given 20 months behind bars.

Ghosn was put on a private plane to Turkey then Lebanon, which does not have an extradition treaty with Japan. It’s believed that the Taylors received $1 million for their role in the escape. They pled guilty to the charges last month, after being extradited from the US to face trial in Japan.

Aug 14, 2021 Japan put 3 prefectures and Hiroshima on Level 5 high emergency alert, which means it’s too late to evacuate as torrential rains caused flooding and mudslides. Several rivers running through the region were deemed at high risk of overflowing.
