Dec 6, 2017 - Donald Trump, the President of the United States recognizes Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, and will begin a process to move the U.S. embassy in Israel to Jerusalem. Jerusalem has been the historic capital of the Jewish people since ancient times, and the seat of government for Israel. There are approximately 1,000 personnel in Tel Aviv who need time to move to Jerusalem. President Trump did not specify a timeline for opening the embassy. The move was authorized in 1995 by Congress. President Trump will make his announcements at 1 pm ET from the White House on December 6, Wednesday. President Donald Trump expected to announce that the US recognizes Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. A site for the embassy has been chosen and preliminary steps toward construction are already underway. Under a proposal presented by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the Palestinians would receive a non-contiguous state in Samaria (WestBank) and Gaza Strip without full sovereignty over the territory, Jewish settlements in Samaria would not be evacuated, Palestinians would not receive East Jerusalem as their capital and Palestinian refugees would not be allowed to return to Israel. Another idea was to extend Gaza into Sinai, Egypt rejected that. |
