Sunni-Shia militias merge in Iraq
July 6, 2019 - Iraq PM Adel Abdul Mahdi said Shia PMU militias (Iran Hashd al-Shaabi) to be integrated into Iraq security forces and be subject to the same regulations. Headquarters, offices and independent checkpoints maintained by the militias are to be shut down. July 7, 2019 - Iraq celebrated the UNESCO decision to name the historic city of Babylon a World Heritage Site. The 4,300-year-old Babylon is 55 miles south of Baghdad on the Euphrates River. Aug 13, 2019 - Mystery blasts at Shiite militia missile depot near Baghdad Aug 12, 2019 - Huge blast at Baghdad ammo depot near Green Zone sends SHELLS FLYING into neighborhood. A series of blasts shook Baghdad after a fire broke out at a militia arms depot, setting off a large stockpile of munitions – and reportedly sending some off into random directions to injure a dozen people.
