 China Moves 150,000 Troops To North Korea Border
April 20, 2017 - According to Korean news agency Chosun, the "Chinese army has deployed about 150,000 troops to the North Korean border in two groups to prepare for unforeseen circumstances." The reason: the prospect of "military options", such as preemptive attacks on North Korea, like the one the United States launched on Syria. Japan’s Sankei Shimbun reported on the 9th that the Syrian missile strike in the United States shocked China, suggesting that the People’s Liberation Army forces are moving toward the Yalu River. Tanks were seen along border with North Korea along with thousands of troops who traveled by train from a military base in Vladivostok. The massive Russian deployment is to prevent a possible influx of hundreds of thousands of North Koreans in the event of war between Washington and Pyongyang. China has dispatched over 150,000 troops to its border with North Korea for the same reason.

April 26, 2017 - The USA began moving the THAAD missile defense system to central South Korea opposite the border with the North months ahead of schedule. A South Korean military official said two road-mobile launchers had arrived at the Osan Air Base. The USS Michigan nuclear submarine docked in South Korea, after the North began a large-scale, long-range artillery fire drill in Wonsan on the east coast. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang voiced the government’s position against the move during a briefing on Tuesday. "We oppose the deployment of the US missile system to South Korea and call on all parties to immediately stop this process. We are ready to take necessary measures to protect our interests," he said, adding that “China’s position on the THAAD issue has not changed.” The spokesperson didn’t specify what protective measures China had in mind. However, responding to the THAAD installation, China announced on Thursday that it will stage live-fire exercises and test new weapons to protect its security.
